Overview of the implementation of the concordat
The UK Higher Education Sector has worked together to develop this new Concordat and it intends to continue working together to ensure its effective implementation. An overview of the process and actions to ensure effective implementation by the sector is set out in this document.
- Implementation Plan
On 22 October the Research Concordat Strategy Group agreed an Implementation Strategy. This document outlines how the Strategy Group and the sector will work together to ensure that the Concordat is delivered across the United Kingdom, to improve career development of research staff.

- Implementation Report
The Strategy Group has asked that periodic reports be published of activity across the Sector to implement the Concordat. The report is in accompanied by a more detailed spreadsheet showing activity in many UK institutions. Neither document seeks to be exhaustive. Rather, they provide a flavour of activity across the sector to demonstrate the energetic and widespread response to the Concordat within UK higher education.

Further signatories and supporters:
Activity is required to broaden support for the Concordat and embed good practice in institutions. To maintain momentum and ensure that practice becomes permanent, it is important to
- Increase the number of signatories and supporters of the Concordat.
Signatories are those organisations that either employ researchers or fund research.
Supporters are other organisations across the sector which are able to play a part in the implementation of the Concordat through their organisation.Please contact Thomas Papworth if you have an interest in signing or supporting the Concordat. Thomas will be able to provide you with further information and a draft paper which could be put to the appropriate group within your organisation to enable agreement to become a signatory or supporter.
